...Warmup Underway...

It was another frosty morning across North and Central Alabama.
Morning lows dropped into the teens in most locations. It was 20 at
the Birmingham Airport and 21 at the NWS in Calera. Some other lows
included:

13 at DeSoto State Park
15 at Decatur
16 at Muscle Shoals, Huntsville, Crossville, Anniston and Fort Payne
17 at Troy
18 at Montgomery
19 at Tuscaloosa
20 at Selma

FOR THE REST OF YOUR WEEKEND: Afternoon readings will make it in to
the lower 50s across much of the area under mostly sunny skies.
Tonight, our winds will be light, but the airmass will have modified
enough to keep temperatures from free falling again. Overnight lows
will range from 24-29 across the area, several degrees warmer than
last evening. Clouds will be more evident of Sunday, but plenty of
sunshine will allow readings to warm to near 60 degrees.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The moderation of our temperatures will continue into
the new work week, with readings in the 60s on Monday. Southeasterly
winds will begin to pump more moisture into the area ahead of our next
storm system, low pressure over the Plains states. By Tuesday, skies
will become cloudy, and there could be a few showers during the day
into the overnight. By Tuesday night, a cold front will be
approaching Alabama from the west. It will propel a line of showers
and storms across the state during the late night hours Tuesday into
early Wednesday. The storms should not be strong. Wednesday will be
a transition day, with showers ending during the morning and some
clearing during the afternoon along with northwesterly winds. But the
airmass behind the front is not Arctic in nature and seasonable
temperatures will take us into the weekend.

ON THIS DATE IN 2002: The gametime temperature at Lambeau Field in
Green Bay was 11 degrees as the Packers kicked off against the
Vikings. The Pack fell behind, but Green Bay QB Bret Favre was 34-0
at Lambeau when then temperature is less than 34 degrees. He brought
the Pack back with an impressive drive to win the ballgame 26-22,
making his record an impresive 34-0 during cold weather.
