BACK TO ANOTHER DEEP FREEZE BY THURSDAY NIGHT: I guess you could
call it roller coaster weather. When I was growing up in beautiful
Havana Junction and had a passionate interest in weather, seemingly as
soon as I could walk, we used to call it yo-yo weather and it meant a
period of brief warm-ups followed quickly by another cool down. It
will be cold again tonight, but not nearly as cold as last night when
we saw some more teens in the North Alabama valleys. Wednesday will
see temperatures in the upper 50s by afternoon. Meanwhile, we are
keeping one of our eyes focused on the NW where another strong surge
of arctic air will arrive Thursday determined to make you shiver
because of north winds of 15 to 25 mph. Here in Central Alabama, look
for an average low around 22 for Friday morning and 20 Saturday
morning. As we have known for many, many years, that means some
communities will have teens on those two mornings. I guess the good
side to all of this is that we do not expect any rain all the way
through the weekend. One weather model hints at a slight risk of rain
Monday, but we will wait before we say for sure. Now, let's look at
some of the low temperatures in Alabama this morning:

13 in Hamilton (I believe that is the lowest I have seen so far this season.)
17 in Falkville, Rainbow City, Livingston, Centreville and West Hueytown
18 in Black Creek and Gaylesville
19 in Anniston, Gadsden, Crossville and Branchville

Most other lows over North and Central Alabama were between 20
and 25. We have a complete list on the 33/40 blog.

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: 1953 was a horrible year for tornadoes in the
USA. The last one to kill people happened on December 5 when 38 people
died in Vicksburg, Mississippi and 270 were injured…news reports today
say that about 130,000 people are still without power in the greater
St. Louis area, because of last Friday's big snowstorm…coldest in the
lower 48 this morning was 11 below at International Falls, Hibbing and
Bigfork, Minnesota. It was 17 below in Northway, Alaska…in the far,
far Northwest at a weather station we like to watch in winter, it was
14 above zero in Mayo, Yukon. Not long ago, they had 35 below zero.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: How would you like for your world to be
only ½ mile round? Little Miss Molly lives her whole life in those
confines and she is happy as a lark. She hates riding in a car so the
only time she gets out of her world is to go a few miles to Argo to
her vet and Puppy Beauty Shop. I live much of my life in those close
confines, too, and I never get bored. I don't ever remember being
bored in my whole life. We are still trying to catch that pesky fly.
My friend, Neal Vickers, told us how. Meanwhile, Molly and I have
named the fly, Freida. But we have not adopted her as a household pet!
Not yet. Life goes on.....
