SOME COLD NIGHTS AHEAD: Quite a stormy night across Alabama, but
take heart, some extremely nice weather is ahead for the next five
days or so if you don't mind some cold nights. A general freeze is
expected tonight with lows by mid morning in the mid 20s across
Central Alabama and some low 20s in the North Alabama valleys. The
weekend looks like mostly sunshine, but a fresh supply of arctic air
will arrive on Monday sending our temperatures down to the low 20s by
Tuesday morning. In fact, next Tuesday morning could be our coldest
morning so far this season.

Skies cleared rather quickly this morning and temperatures kept
falling until midday. There was scattered wind damage in at least five
counties across Alabama last night from Marengo NE to Jefferson
County. By far, the more serious damage was around the Demopolis.
Most of the damage in the other counties consisted of uprooted trees.
The amazing part about all of this was that no actual thunderstorms
were involved. Instead, it was low-topped heavy showers, but even
those sometimes can produce a small tornado when the conditions are
right aloft. The NWS reported this afternoon that it was an F1
tornado, which touched down 3 miles SW of Demopolis at 9:30 p.m. It
traveled for a distance of 1.2 miles and was 150 yards wide. It
started near US-80 and Maria Avenue. Several large trees were blown
over on homes producing significant damage. Several more large trees
destroyed a few mobile homes. An apartment complex had significant
roof damage and a few mobile homes were rolled over.

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: Most people from Texas to the Midwest had no
thoughts of global warming today. Much of the area was paralyzed with
freezing rain, snow and sleet, not to mention bitter cold. In Chicago,
the final snow depth was expected to be 8-10 inches in the western
suburbs and 4-6 inches south of I-55. Another surge of arctic air will
engulf the Windy City by Sunday keeping the highs only in the teens…in
St. Louis, freezing rain and sleet put down a coating of ice and 2-5
inches of snow accumulated on top of that. 565,000 were without power
in metro St. Louis and I-70 was closed for 60 miles in the middle part
of the state.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: After two days and two nights with two
grandkids and a lot of other commotion, Little Miss Molly had to deal
with some severe weather last night. As usual, she headed for the
hills when the strong wind and heavy rain moved in. Today it was
almost like she was having a hangover trying to get caught up on her
beauty naps. She simply melted into my recliner. She did not make me
go on a long walk until almost noon. Immediately we noticed that every
single one of the leaves had blown off the sassafras tree and the Old
Crow Motel is a stark outline. We are getting into my second favorite
season of the year. Life goes on....

MOTORCYCLE RIDE--DECEMBER 2nd
BENEFITING THE ELDRIDGE CHILDREN'S HOME

Come join us in a fantastic motorcycle ride with a great cause!

It's the 4th Annual Eldridge Children's Home Benefit Ride. The home, located
in Eldridge just off Hwy 78 and State Hwy 13 in Northwest Alabama, has
been in operation since 1948. It houses 30 children in all age groups; they are
educated in public schools, attend local churches and are raised within the
campus in homes. The home accepts no state or federal money and operates
on donations from area churches and individuals.

Motorcycle riders get together for a ride to benefit this home. Riders are able
to fulfill a special "Christmas Wish List" from each child and help operate this
home all year long. Riders are encouraged to bring gift cards from any retail
outlet or give a donation via check, made payable to Eldridge Children's Home.
This home has a 501(c)3 status, so donations are tax deductible.

Weather will not be a factor--just be there for the children.
The first Saturday in December, all roads lead to Eldridge.
