A FROSTY MORNING: For many Alabama communities, the lowest
temperature so far this season occurred overnight. In some areas, the
wind did not want to go to sleep, so they remained above freezing.
Here is a selection of the coldest temperatures around the state early
this morning.

22 in Belle Mina (located a few miles NE of Decatur)
24 at Black Creek with heavy frost (NE Etowah County)
25 in Owens Crossroads
26 in Hanceville, Gaylesville and Crossville
27 at Scottsboro, Ft. Payne and in Bankhead National Forest
28 in Decatur, Meridianville, Cullman, Pinson and Russellville Airport

This afternoon, a big high pressure area was centered over West
Tennessee and West Kentucky. It will drift down across Alabama
tonight. It will be just as cold as last night in many Alabama
communities, especially in the valleys. But after tonight, a warming
trend will set in. Lows by Sunday morning should be closer to 40 and
between 45 and 50 on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Highs will recover
to the 60s starting tomorrow.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Clear and cold for the high school games tonight
with temperatures falling into the 40s. In college games on Saturday,
Alabama plays Mississippi State at Tuscaloosa at 11:30 a.m.
Temperatures should peak in the low 60s and fall into the upper 40s by
the end of the game. Arkansas State will be at Auburn. It should be
about 63 for the 1:30 kickoff, falling into the 50s in the fourth
quarter.

TROPICAL WEATHER: A weak area of low pressure continues near the SE
coast of Belize…still disorganized…it is still so close to land that
tropical development is not expected. However, heavy rain is possible
during the next day or so across the Yucatan Peninsula, Belize,
Guatemala and Honduras

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: Very cold in the Great Smoky Mountain high
country this morning. It dropped to 15 on Newfound Gap and 11 atop Mt.
LeConte…in North Carolina, it was 13 at Beech Mountain and on
Grandfather Mountain and 12 atop Mt. Mitchell…the coldest in the lower
48 was 4 at Minot, North Dakota.
