...Fall Back...

If you haven’t already set your clocks back an hour this morning for the end of Daylight Saving Time, now would be a good time. Hey, did you know that this will be the last time that Daylight Saving Time ends in October? Next year, it will end in early November on a Congressional mandate. It will also begin in March instead of April.

GORGEOUS SUNDAY: We are getting off to a clear and cool start this morning. Temperatures fell well into the 40s overnight. There probably will be a few readings in the 30s before all is said and done. We should experience full sunshine today and temperatures will warm into the 70s. How far they will go, that is the question. We will split the difference between the various model output statistics schemes and call for 74 degrees today. Under clear skies tonight, readings will fall into the middle 40s. Many area churches are hosting their Fall festival celebrations tonight, and the weather should be perfect.

PWW: It looks like tomorrow will be an even finer day, with southerly winds kicking in, sending temperatures a few degrees higher than today. Readings should be in the upper 70s for most locations. Skies should remain mostly sunny. With my perfect weather criteria in range, we will go ahead and issue a watch for Monday. Hopefully, you can get outside for lunch.

HALLOWEEN: Tuesday will feature increasing clouds as a cold front approaches Alabama from the northwest. Temperatures will start off in the middle 50s and rise into the middle 70s during the day. A few showers could break out late in the day across northwest sections of the area. It appears that the front will be running out of steam as it approaches Alabama and rainfall amounts will be light for the most part. For now, it appears that any trick or treaters will not be disappointed in the weather Tuesday night, although a few showers cannot be ruled out.

REST OF THE WEEK: Tuesday will feature increasing clouds as a cold front approaches Alabama from the northwest. Temperatures will start off in the middle 50s and rise into the middle 70s during the day. A few showers could break out late in the day across northwest sections of the area. They will hang with us through at least part of Thursday.

HEADING INTO WEEKEND: Much cooler air will spread into Alabama late on Thursday. The Tennessee Valley will experience a freeze Friday morning and much of North and Central Alabama will drop below freezing Saturday morning.

ON THIS DATE IN 1999: A “super-cyclone'' slammed into northeast Indian state of Orissa, packing winds of 150 mph and flattening houses across a wide
area along the Bay of Bengal. Over 9,500 people were killed and as many as 10 million left homeless.
