AFTERNOONS GETTING WARMER: Looks like great weather over the weekend
across Alabama. Nights will be cool, but the afternoons will be
getting warmer. In fact by Sunday afternoon, the old thermometer may
reach to 90 across Central Alabama and maybe 92 in such places as
Tuscaloosa and Livingston. We expect lows tonight mostly in the upper
50s and lower 60s for Saturday night.

A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE EARLY IN THE WEEK: Another cold front will
reach Central Alabama Monday night and move through the state Tuesday.
This is going to bring another round of showers and thunderstorms.
Here in the central part of the state, the main showers and storms
will start Monday afternoon and become more numerous Monday night.
They should end Tuesday morning as the wind shifts to the NW and turns
cooler. We may see some low temperatures by the middle of next week
down close to the 50-degree mark. We have introduced a slight risk of
a few severe thunderstorms later Monday and Monday night. We know that
is a little far out to be that specific, but that is just a heads up.

LAST NIGHT: The old thermometer dropped to lows very similar to
those of Thursday morning. Some of the lowest this morning included 50
at Cullman, Valley Head and Black Creek. Most of the other lows across
North and Central Alabama varied from 52 to 56. It will be almost that
cool tonight.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: No chance of rain for tonight's high school games
or the college games on Saturday. In fact, it will be completely
clear. UAB plays Georgia in Athens at noon. The temperature should top
out at 87. It will also be around 87 in Auburn for the 2:30 kickoff
with LSU, lowering to near 80 by the end of the game. The
Alabama-Louisiana/Monroe in Tuscaloosa does not start until 6:00pm.
Look for 83 degrees at kickoff and about 75 at the final whistle.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Hurricane Gordon has weakened to a Category 2 with
sustained winds of 100 mph centered about 700 miles east of Bermuda.
He will continue to weaken moving NE over the open Atlantic. Tropical
Storm Helene was way out in the Atlantic 1,355 miles east of the
Leeward Islands. She may become a hurricane Saturday, but no threat to
land.

THE WORLD OF WEATHER: Some cold temperatures this morning included
19 in Stanley, Idaho, 27 in Lodgepole, Idaho, 21 in Deadman Valley in
NW Canada, and 106 below zero at Vostok, Antarctica…some of the higher
mountains in Western Montana could get as much as two feet of snow
over the weekend…about one-half foot in the Northern Utah mountains…at
Mount Rushmore, South Dakota it was 94 yesterday. Their temperature
will plunge to the mid 30s late in the weekend with a rain/snow mix.
