...Nice Weekend In Store...

I hope that you had a chance to enjoy the rising full moon last evening. It
was beautiful as it ascended into the evening eastern sky. Since the moon
Is closer to the Earth than it will be all year, it is the largest full
moon. It is also the Harvest moon, since it is the closest full moon to the
autumnal equinox.

OUR FORECAST: Partly cloudy and warm conditions will prevail through the
weekend. Highs will be near seasonal levels, rising into the middle and
upper 80s both days. It's more of the same for Monday. Lows through the
period will be in the 60s. A cold front will approach Alabama on Tuesday,
giving us a good chance of showers and storms. Rain will end before
Wednesday.

FOOTBALL FORECAST: Auburn travels to Starkville for a tilt with the
Bulldogs at 11:30. Expect partly cloudy skies with justa tiny chance of a
shower or storm. Highs will top out in the upper 80s toward the fourth
quarter. Alabama entertains the Vanderbilt Commodores at 2:30 p.m. A
similar forecast prevails. UAB will host East Carolina at 6 p.m. The risk
of a storm is even smaller, with temperatures falling into the 70s.

SPACE SHUTTLE FORECAST: The Space Shuttle Atlantic is scheduled to launch
at 10:15 a.m. CDT this morning. Air Force meteorologists predict only a
twenty percent chance of weather conditions that would prohibit the launch.

TROPICAL STORM FLORENCE: Florence finally started to get her act together
late on Friday with lots of intense convection developing near the center.
The storm became more organized and grew in intensity overnight.
Reconnaissance flights were scheduled to begin during the early morning
hours, so by the time you read this, we will likely be getting definitive
information on the strength of the storm. The storm is huge, with
tropical storm force winds extending out nearly 400 miles to the north.
Florence is forecast to pass near Bermuda on Sunday afternoon. A hurricane
watch is already in effect for
the island.

REST OF THE ATLANTIC: Nothing else of any significance in the tropical
Atlantic at this time. A tropical wave east of the islands is disorganized
at this time.

RECORD BIN It was only 61F for the afternoon high at Monterey, California
on Friday as a persistent marine layer kept skies grey all day. It was a
record for the date.

ON THIS DATE IN 1990: Birmingham recorded 99 for the daily high
temperature. What made this significant was that it was the 32nd
consecutive day that the city saw readings of 90 degrees or hotter, which
broke the previous record of 31 days which had been set in 1954.
