RAIN CHANCES DECREASING AFTER TODAY: There were more scattered
thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon. They were not as numerous
and vicious as yesterday's storms, however, a few of them were
shooting lightning strokes like a machine gun and producing locally
heavy rain, especially in the central part of the state.

Drier air continues to wiggle its way into the state from the north.
We are expecting the dew point in Central Alabama to be between 66 and
68 all day tomorrow. Translation—you will be able to feel that the
humidity is down somewhat. Lately, with all of our 95-degree plus
heat, the dew point has been between 70 and 75 and that is just like
being in a sauna bath.

The drier air also means that our showers and thunderstorms will thin
out greatly starting tomorrow. We expect only a slight chance of a
thunderstorm each day from Wednesday through Friday. They may increase
a little on Saturday to about a 1 in 3 chance. This does not apply to
the entire state. Down near the coast, including the Mobile-Gulf
Shores area, there will be a good chance of showers and thunderstorms
almost every day with high temperatures between 90 and 92.

THE TROPICAL SITUATION: Overall, that big bowl of water known as the
Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and our beloved Gulf of Mexico is
quiet. There is one major exception. Tropical depression #4 was way
out in the Eastern Atlantic 140 miles SW of the southernmost Cape
Verde Islands. It was near tropical storm strength. When it increases
just a bit more it will be known as Tropical Storm Debby. A tropical
wave was 1,000 miles east of the Southern Windward Islands. This may
develop slowly also. Would you believe that last year at this time we
had already had 10 named storms.

THE WORLD OF WEATHER: Good old Embarrass, Minnesota. It is way up
there in the Minnesota North Woods, which I want to visit one day.
They had a low of 33 this morning which is a sign of the season. That
community can drop as low as 60 below occasionally in the winter. The
name of the town does not mean they are embarrassed by the
weather…across the other end of the thermometer, it got up to 119
yesterday in Death Valley.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: James Spann spent several hours in my
tiny corner today doing computer troubleshooting. He needs to start a
sideline business with that—as if he has time. There are growing
indications that the good Lord designated me as a person who should
not own a computer…you should have seen Little Miss Molly when James
rang the doorbell. Maybe she recognized him from TV, but she almost
took him down…we had to chase her all over the house to catch her and
keep her from being an outright nuisance. But James love Molly too, so
life goes on. Little Miss Molly will be four years old in a few days…I
plan to have at least seven ballgames with her that day!
