GOOD MORNING: Our forecast package this morning will include a weak
cold front. Actually, it is in the witness protection program for
weather features. You may hardly recognize it as a front.

STRONG STORMS?: The front will trigger a few widely scattered storms
as it moves southward today. Any of these storms that gets its act
together will have the potential to produce strong damaging winds. So
watch out for that. Highs today will make it well into the 90s, like
yesterday.

MOVING AHEAD: The rest of the weekend will look a lot like today,
with partly cloudy skies, hot temperatures and a slight chance of
afternoon and evening storms. Highs will continue above normal.

MORE HOT WEATHER: High pressure will begin intensifying as we head
into the new work week, and we will see some scorchers again during
the next seven days. Expect daily doses of widely scattered or
isolated afternoon and evening storms. But don’t expect much in the
way of relief from the heat.

KEEPING AN EYE ON CHRIS: But there is not much to keep an eye on.
Reconnaissance aircraft last evening still found a circulation, albeit
a weak one. Later satellite photos revealed an even more disorganized
system. If it is not already disintegrated into an open wave by the
time I finish writing this, it probably will have by the time you read
it. If, and that is a very big if, it holds together long enough to
get past Cuba, it may re-intensify into a tropical storm over the Gulf
of Mexico. The good news for the northern Gulf Coast is that the
ridge of high pressure should keep any system heading west into Texas.

ON THIS DATE IN 1980: Hurricane Allen reached Category 5 status for
the first of 3 times during its long path across the Atlantic as
reconnaissance aircraft measured a 911 mb pressure in the eastern
Caribbean while south of Puerto Rico.
