...Some Sun; A Few Scattered Storms...

This is the time of the year when the weather doesn't change quickly around
here. You can almost count on hot and humid weather conditions, and the
daily risk of a passing shower or storm during the afternoon hours. There
are weather changes, but often they are very hard to identify since they are
very small scale and don't show up on synoptic weather maps.

Perhaps the most interesting feature on the board this morning is the big
mass of moisture just to the west of here, over Arkansas, Mississippi, and
West Tennessee. This is from the old tropical system that was on the Texas
gulf coast earlier this week. That moisture will slowly creep into the
northern half of Alabama today, so we expect to see some increase in the
number of scattered showers and storms this afternoon. It looks like
tomorrow might actually offer the best coverage of showers and storms as the
moisture continues to deepen.

The pool of moisture are will just hang around into next week, and each day
we will mention a chance of scattered afternoon showers or storms statewide.
Temperatures will remain close to normal levels, with highs today mostly in
the low 90s. Some spots might fail to reach 90 tomorrow with some increase
in clouds and showers.

AT THE BEACH: About five to seven hours of sun each day this weekend along
the central Gulf coast with a daily risk of scattered showers and storms.
The best coverage of showers and storms on the coast should be on Sunday.
Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s on the immediate coast, and the sea
water temperature remains close to 90 degrees at Gulf Shores, Pensacola, and
Fort Walton Beach.

TROPICS: A tropical wave in the central Atlantic, about 700 miles southwest
of the Cape Verde Islands, seems to be getting better organized, and upper
air winds could allow a tropical storm to form during the next day or so as
it moves to the west. Another wave is located in the Caribbean, but the
upper air wind profile doesn't favor any immediate organization.

ROAMING: Shreveport, LA was soaked with 3.50" of rain yesterday. Hottest
spot in the nation was Death Valley, California with 122 degrees.
