...Tropical Moisture Stays In Place...

A plume of tropical moisture continues to flow into Alabama from a
disturbance in the western Gulf of Mexico, on the Texas coast. This flow
should continue for the next few days, and will mean muggy weather for
Alabama with some risk of a shower or storm on a daily basis. The hardest
part of this forecast is determining the coverage of those showers and
storms.

Model data suggests that showers and storms today will remain widely
scattered, but the coverage could increase tomorrow and Saturday as the
moisture deepens. Most of the showers will come during the afternoon and
evening hours, but in a pure tropical airmass like this, we can't rule out a
few late night or morning showers. Temperatures will remain near normal for
late July in Alabama; most spots will see a high somewhere between 89 and 93
over the next few days, with early morning lows in the low 70s.

NEXT WEEK: For now we are expecting typical mid-summer weather through much
of next week, with partly sunny days and the daily risk of scattered
afternoon showers and storms.

TROPICS: The system on the Texas coast is not expected to become a tropical
storm since the center remains over land. A tropical wave is moving into the
far eastern Caribbean this morning, and is producing a fairly large area of
showers and storms. But, upper air winds don't seem especially favorable for
any tropical storm formation in that region for now. The rest of the
Atlantic basin is relatively quiet.

In the Pacific, tropical depression Daniel will brush the Hawaiian Islands
today, but only a little rain and gusty winds are expected. Daniel was a
hurricane a few days ago, but cooler water and dry air entering the system
was responsible for the rapid weakening in recent days.

SOAKING WET: The tropical system on the Texas coast dumped heavy rain in the
general area from Galveston to Lake Charles; Houston's total yesterday was
2.12", while Lake Charles reported 3.76"

HEAT BACKS OFF: Yesterday's high in Phoenix was a "cool" 98 degrees, down
from the 114 they recorded over this past weekend.
