...Typical summer pattern ahead...

GOOD MORNING: We will head into a typical summertime weather pattern here
in Alabama this week, but not before we have an opportunity for a little
more in the way of welcome rainfall.

TODAY/TOMORROW: Our cold front will move north later today, giving us a
chance of showers and storms. Those showers and storms may be with us
through the overnight and into Tuesday as the front meanders through. With
partly cloudy skies, highs today and Tuesday will be near 90 degrees in most

locations.

MIDWEEK AND BEYOND: By Wednesday, a ridge of high pressure will be
building across the Gulf Coast. This will lock us into a typical summertime
pattern with partly cloudy skies and scattered afternoon and evening showers
and storms. The patterns looks like it will be with us into the weekend.
Temperatures will run a degree or two above normal. .

EYE ON THE TROPICS: Some misguided people have been fussing that the
forecasts of above normal tropical activity by NOAA and Dr. William Gray
were going to bust. Hello. That's one than no one will mind busting. It's
July. We have already had two. Number three might be cooking up in the
southwest Gulf, but it looks unlikely since it is so close to land. It is a
disturbed area of weather that might be investigated by reconnaissance later
today. Upper level winds are becoming more conducive to development, so we
will be monitoring it as it moves slowly north or northwest. It will likely
spread lots of
rain into Texas and maybe Louisiana.

ON THIS DATE IN 1788: George Washington had retired to Mount Vernon by
1788, when the eye of an early-season hurricane passed directly over his
plantation after moving ashore near the mouth of Chesapeake Bay. It would
be known as George Washington's Hurricane. Washington was an avid weather
watcher and recorded the event fully in his journal.
