...Showers Mainly This Morning...

A rare July "cold" front will pass through North Alabama this morning, bring
clouds and a few periods of very welcomed rain. By midday, drier air will
move in from the north, and most of the showers and storms will shift down
into South Alabama by afternoon. Because of the clouds and morning showers,
temperatures will be below normal today for a change; most spots will see a
high somewhere between 84 and 89 degrees.

We should be dry tomorrow and Saturday with ample sunshine, lower humidity,
and cooler nighttime temperatures. Most communities will stay dry Sunday as
well, although moisture levels will begin to increase by then.

We will bring back the chance of scattered afternoon showers and storms
early next week as moisture continues to increase.

TROPICAL UPDATE: An upper level low continues to spin away over South
Florida; that feature should move northeast in coming days, near the
Atlantic coast of the U.S. We will also be watching the Gulf of Mexico this
weekend and early next week; the front that is passing through here this
morning will stall and slowly dissipate in the northern Gulf; sometimes that
is a favored area for tropical depression formation this time of the year.
Sea water temperatures are running in the 84 to 88 degree range across much
of the Gulf of Mexico; station PCLF1 at Pensacola Beach reported a water
temperature of 89 degrees last night, about as warm as it gets.

A NICE CHANGE: Yesterday's high in Muscle Shoals was only 77 degrees with
clouds and occasional light rain (their total was 0.30"). The high in
Pinson, about 15 miles northeast of Birmingham, was only 87. Birmingham's
official high was 90 degrees.
