...Dog Days Are Here...

GOOD MORNING: That seems obvious to the senses with all the hot weather we
have already been experiencing. But July 3rd marks the official beginning
of the Dog Days of Summer. The Dog Days are named for the Egyptian belief
that during the period of time from July 3 through August 11 when the Dog
Star Sirius rises and falls with the sun, that the star added to the heat of
the Sun It will feel like the Dog Days, especially for the next couple of
days.
HOLIDAY WEATHER: Expect hot and hazy conditions today and tomorrow with
just a small chance of an afternoon or evening thunderstorm both days.

BEYOND THE FOURTH: High pressure will break down on Wednesday allowing
scattered showers and storms and there will be a good chance on Thursday as
a front drifts down into Alabama from the north. This front will stall out
over Central Alabama on Friday, continuing our enhanced shower and storm
chances.

TROPICS: A trough of low pressure over the western Gulf will bring loads of
rain to South Texas today, where Flash Flood Watches are in effect. The
system poses no threat of tropical cyclone development now.

ON THIS DATE IN 1998: Smoke from the vicious Florida fires spread all the
way into the Florida Straits, to Cuba and even to the Bahamas. Visibility
was down to only one mile in both Havana, Cuba and at Freeport in the
Bahamas. The Pepsi 400 NASCAR race at Daytona was cancelled because of
fires in area. Track officials did not want to put any more pressure on the
already harried local residents.

ON THIS DATE IN 1992: An eighteen foot high rogue wave crashes into coast
of Eastern Florida without warning, affecting a twenty seven mile stretch of
coastline from New Smyrna Beach to Ormond Beach. Seventy five people were
injured and 200 cars were damaged.
