...A Few More Storms...

GOOD MORNING: Numerous storms developed to our south and southwest on
Friday afternoon, in closer proximity to an upper level trough to the west
of Alabama. The blow off from those storms produced a cirrus canopy over
the state during the afternoon. Those storms will form again today to our
west. Some of them may edge into West Alabama, so we will include a chance
of storms this afternoon. Increased clouds may keep temperatures a couple
of degrees cooler than yesterday. Readings should range from the upper 80s
where there are most clouds to lower 90s in eastern sections.
REST OF YOUR WEEKEND: Can't rule out the chance of an overnight shower or
storm, especially over western sections. Look for more storms to our west
on Sunday, with a chance again for western Alabama. High pressure over the
Atlantic that has been protecting us will break down late tomorrow and may
allow more showers to edge into Alabama late tomorrow night and Monday.
RAINFALL SURPLUS DWINDLING: We have been running with a rainfall surplus
for most of this year, but that excess is withering away along with most of
our grass. We are now 3.29 inches above normal for the year.
SKYLIGHTS: Looking west tonight after sunset, the planets Mars and Saturn
will appear to be on a collision course. They won't be in actuality, but
it will make a pretty sight.
TROPICS: The Atlantic Basin is quiet again after this week's Tropical Storm
Alberto. No tropical storm formation is expected any time soon.
IMPORTANT LESSON: All tornadoes, no matter how small or insignificant they
may seem, can be deadly. The deadliest tornado in the United States in 1978
was also one of the weakest. Learn more about it in today's Weather Talk.

ON THIS DATE IN 1992: A prison in Wisconsin was hit by a tornado. Several
buildings were destroyed, but much to the prisoners' dismay, the fences
survived.
