...Alabama Weather Heating Up...
Hot and dry weather will continue to be the Alabama weather story today and
tomorrow. Lots of sun; highs in the low 90s for most spots. But, the chance
of a few afternoon showers and storms over the weekend is looking a tad more
promising this morning.
A major upper trough is now over the northwest U.S., and is forecast to move
down into the southern plains. And, at the surface, winds will veer around
to the south by Saturday, meaning an increase in low level moisture. This
should mean a fairly decent chance of scattered showers and storms both
Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
The rain probably won't be all that widespread, but at least a few front
yards and lakes have a good chance at a good shower or storm. Highs for the
weekend will be in the 88 to 92 degree range. A few scattered afternoon
storms will be possible early next week as well.
TROPICAL TIDBITS: The storm formerly known as Alberto is moving northeast
into the Atlantic, away from the U.S. mainland this morning. The system
might
approach Scotland by early next week after a long journey across the "big
pond". Elsewhere, one wave is over the Caribbean, and another one in the
eastern Atlantic, but development is not expected at this time due to
hostile upper air winds.
ROAMING: Raleigh, North Carolina was soaked with 5.65" of rain yesterday
thanks to our friend Alberto. The total at Norfolk, VA was 4.05" Hottest
place in the nation yesterday was Wink, TX with 111 degrees. Triple digit
heat reached Nebraska, where North Platte reported a high of 100. Alabama's
hot spot yesterday with Dothan with 95. The mercury reached 92 in
Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery.
