THERMOMETER GOING UPWARD: Indeed a nice unseasonably cool start to
June 6, but the old thermometer is getting wise and will start back up to
more normal-like early June temperatures. In fact, we may see some 90-degree
weather by this weekend.

We do have another pleasant night ahead as temperatures fall to near
60 with the valley locations dropping to at least the upper 50s. We must
pause for a moment for three cheers for this morning's low temperatures:

45 in Black Creek (NE Etowah County)
46 in Heflin
47 in Crossville and DeSoto State Park
49 in Hamilton, Munford, Cottondale
50 in Ft. Payne, Cullman, Gadsden, Wedowee
51 in Pinson, Anniston and Troy
52 in Tuscaloosa, Alexander City, Alabaster
53 in Jasper

A DRY PERIOD? Those old weather models have changed their mind
somewhat and are downplaying much chance of rain for Central Alabama for the
next several days. A cluster of showers and thunderstorms that moved
southward from Missouri and Arkansas overnight should miss us to the west as
they diminish. However, we think there will be a slight chance of some
showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening. The conditions
aloft will become more favorable for higher temperatures in Alabama over the
next several days.

THE SUMMER OF 2006: Wish we could tell you what kind of summer we
will have. We sure hope we don't have a prolonged heat wave, which we
occasionally have, and a long dry spell. We don't wish that on anyone in the
country. In 1995, a July heat wave caused the deaths of over 700 people in
Chicago and the temperature topped out at 106 at Midway Airport.

SEVERE WEATHER: The Storm Prediction Center has a broad area from
East Oklahoma and Arkansas northward to Minnesota under a slight risk this
afternoon and tonight. For Wednesday, the slight risk area covers the north
parts of Louisiana and Mississippi north to Indiana and Ohio.

WANDERING AROUND: 118 in Death Valley was the hottest Monday...31
this morning in Stanley, Idaho and at Lake Yellowstone in Yellowstone
National Park was the chilliest...25 was Alaska's coldest at Eagle...it was
on this date in 1916 that a major tornado outbreak occurred in Arkansas and
Mississippi. 125 persons were killed with 83 of those at Warren, Arkansas.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: It is not unusual for me to get an
e-mail that brings me back to reality and makes me ever so thankful to have
Little
Miss Molly by my side. Monday this is a note that I got from Mary Lackey in
Anniston. She said, "Go ahead and keep telling everyone to love and enjoy
their pets and to be thankful for every day they have with them. I came home
yesterday to find my little Pomeranian named Buttons had passed away while I
was at work. It is a terrible thing to know that this happened to him and I
wasn't there to hold and comfort him at the end. I am so thankful for the 8
wonderful years we had together. I only wish we could have had so many more.
Thanks for letting me share my story and you are welcome to use it,
especially if it will make even one pet owner think twice and love their pet
a little bit extra every day. Give Little Miss Molly an extra special hug
for me." I could not help but think of Buttons last night as Molly and I
were having a long ballgame, especially when I took her into bed late at
night. I am very lucky and ever so thankful. Life goes on.
