NICE FOR EARLY JUNE: Today is a red letter day (no, make that a hot
letter day) for Birmingham. It is the earliest in history dating back to
1885, that we have officially recorded 100 degrees. It happened on June 5 in
1985. That should make us appreciate even more today's weather. So, let us
continue to celebrate some early morning low temperatures.

52 in Crossville and Rock Mills
53 in DeSoto State Park and Black Creek
54 at Ft. Payne Airport
55 in Pinson, Jasper and at Cullman Airport
56 in Ashville and Hamilton
57 at Talladega
58 at Helena, Anniston, Tuscaloosa, Clanton
59 at Birmingham, Decatur, Albertville, Alex City

After Sunday's semi-illegal thunderstorms moved through, drier air
moved in overnight giving us lots of sunshine today and we will experience
more cool temperatures tonight. It is not totally out of the question for
some of the North Alabama valleys to cool to 49 or 50 tonight.

Down the road, lots of sunshine again Tuesday but some scattered
showers and thunderstorms will occur Wednesday, Wednesday night and Thursday
morning. Latest evidence points to dry weather for Friday and Saturday.
Still no sign of any real hot weather.

AT THE BEACH: Highs consistently will be 85 to 88 through Friday,
but about 3 degrees cooler within a mile or so of the beach. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms for Wednesday and Thursday, but thinning out
greatly on Friday.

IN THE TROPICS: A broad low pressure area was over the NW Caribbean
and extended NE across Central Cuba into the Central Bahamas. Winds upstairs
do not support tropical storm development at this time.

SEVERE WEATHER: Several minor wind damage reports from North
Alabama Sunday afternoon. Probably the most significant one was numerous
trees uprooted along US-278 across Central Cullman County...a slight risk of
severe weather this afternoon and tonight from Oklahoma northward to
Minnesota and North Dakota. Within that is a moderate risk area over the
east 2/3 of Kansas.

WAR ZONE WEATHER: Highs in Baghdad all this week will be mostly 110
to 115 112 to 116 in Basrah. Dry weather with the usual very low humidity.

ROAMING: Phoenix is having a tough time with heat with 105 to 110
the next couple of days with blowing dust in the evening when isolated and
often dry thunderstorms develop...119 in Death Valley was the hottest
yesterday...lows this morning 32 in Stanley, Idaho and 19 at Anaktuvuk Pass,
Alaska.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Got real busy with thunderstorms
Sunday afternoon, but when they had ended, Little Miss Molly made it
perfectly clear that she was expecting some time with me. On our afternoon
walk, she was very insistent on taking all the time she wanted and I thought
we would never get back home. The temperature had cooled off nicely, so her
little tongue wasn't hanging out when we got back. That made her extra
insistent on a ballgame of world series importance. I did not think she
would ever stop chasing the balls. Life goes on.
