...Another Pleasant June Day...

Another spectacular summer day is ahead for Alabama today, with ample sunshine and low humidity levels for June. After a cool morning, we should wind up in the mid 80s this afternoon.

A disturbance approaching from the northwest will bring the chance of scattered showers and storms back to the state tomorrow. It won’t rain all day, and rainfall distribution will be very uneven. Then, on Thursday, we will hang onto the chance of a few showers mainly during the morning as the impulse moves into southeast Alabama during the day. By Thursday afternoon, most of the showers and storms should be south of I-20.

Any showers on Friday should be very isolated as warmer air aloft moves in from the west, making the air most stable.

WEEKEND PEEK: For now we expect mostly dry weather over the weekend, with only isolated afternoon and evening storms. Temperatures will be back into the “hot” range, with afternoon highs between 88 and 92.

TROPICS: A broad trough of low pressure continues over the northwest Caribbean, and northeastward into the Atlantic. Upper air winds are fairly strong over that area, and tropical storm formation is not expected this week. Remember, the peak of the season comes later, in August, September, and early October, when the ocean waters are very warm, and waves coming off the coast of Africa have the chance to develop over the long path westward.

BLISTERING HEAT: Some big time heat continues in the southwest deserts of the U.S. The national hot spot yesterday was Death Valley, CA with 118 degrees. Phoenix reported a high of 111, while Las Vegas soared to 107. Temperatures will slowly back down out there in coming days.
