...Summer-Like Weather Is Here...
Very warm weather will headline our forecast package over the weekend.
Temperatures will peak in the 84 to 89 degree range each afternoon with a
good supply of sunshine. Dewpoints will remain relatively low for this time
of the year, so at least the humidity won't be too oppressive.
We will hang on to the chance of a few isolated thunderstorms this afternoon
and evening, and if storms do develop they could be strong to severe. The
Storm Prediction Center maintains a slight risk of severe storms today for
the northern third of the state. But, any storms that fire up should be
widely spaced, and many neighborhoods will be dry.
The chance of afternoon showers over the weekend is so small it isn't worth
mentioning in our forecast. The warm and dry weather should continue well
into next week. Showers could show up toward the end of next week, or about
one week from now.
44 YEARS AGO: We were in the midst of a major early season heat wave. Many
people recall the big snows during winters in the early 60s, but few
remember the big heat waves we also experienced. On May 19, 1962 the high in
Birmingham was 98 degrees, and we were in the midst of a string of seven
consecutive days with record highs, all between 96 and 98 degrees.
ROAMING: Cincinnati, OH was soaked with 1.02" of rain yesterday. Death
Valley, CA was like a blast furnace again yesterday; their high was 116
degrees, the hottest spot in the nation. The high in Phoenix was 104. Up in
Alaska, Anaktuvuk Pass recorded a low of 21. Stanley, Idaho reported a
frosty 31 degrees. Yesterday's high in Akron, Ohio was only 57 degrees, and
they probably won't see 60 again today.
