...The Warm-Up Begins Today...

A warming trend begins across Alabama today. Most places will reach the
upper 70s this afternoon, which is still below the normal high of 81. If we
do remain below 81 degrees today, this will be the 14th day in a row with
temperatures below normal. The air is relatively dry and stable and most
communities will be rain-free.

Tomorrow we should go into the 80s for the first time since May 4. A few
showers are possible late tomorrow afternoon, but they should be very
isolated, and mainly in areas northeast of Birmingham.

WARM WEEKEND: Warm weather fans will love the weekend as the weather will
feel much more like summer. We expect afternoon temperatures in the mid 80s
on Saturday and Sunday with a good deal of sunshine both days. Some spots in
West Alabama might even reach the upper 80s. The chance of any one spot
seeing a shower is very small. The dry and warm weather should last into the
first two days of next week.

NEXT RAIN: At the moment it looks like our next decent chance of significant
rain (other than isolated showers) is about one week away, late Wednesday
and Thursday of next week.

A WET YEAR: Birmingham's rain total for the year is now 29.72", a surplus of
6.57".

A DRY YEAR: In contrast, Mobile's rain total since January 1 is only 11.91",
a whopping 14.55" below normal.

SIZZLING HEAT: The desert southwest is baking. The high yesterday in Death
Valley, CA was 116 degrees, 18 degrees away from their all time high of 134
recorded on July 10, 1913. The mercury reached 104 degrees in Phoenix. Even
Montana was warm yesterday; the high in Great Falls was 87; they expect 90
there today.
