...Happy Monday To You...

GOOD MORNING: This morning's forecast comes to you from beautiful Park
City, Utah. It is nice to be back out west. Hopefully, this will be the
first of many visits.

OUR WEATHER FLIP FLOPPED: The expected high today here in Park City is 77.
That is going to be nearly ten degrees warmer than the high in Birmingham.

ON THE WEATHER MAPS: All you have to do is go to the 500 millibars chart
(about 18,000 feet up in the atmosphere) to see why our weather roles are
reversed. Utah and the western United States is located under a huge ridge
of high pressure that is giving them fine, warm weather. Meanwhile, Alabama
and the East as you might expect is dealing with a cold upper low and
trough.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The huge upper low to our north will begin lifting out to
the northeast later tomorrow, but it will leave the big trough in place over
the East, keeping us cool through midweek. Temperatures will average some
10-15 degrees below normal through Wednesday. The trough lifts out enough
for our flow to flatten by Thursday, leading to more sunshine and more
normal temperatures. High pressure over the northern Gulf holds approaching
fronts at bay until Saturday. .

WEEKEND: Big high pressure over the Midwest will sink southward pushing a
complex set of low pressure systems towards Alabama by Saturday night and
Sunday. Our rain chances will increase Saturday night and Sunday.

ON THIS DATE IN 1966: A red letter day in tropical cyclone forecasting.
The NIMBUS II satellite was launched. The NUMBUS I satellite had failed
after launch. The NIMBUS series were the first polar orbiting satellites.
They gave worldwide satellite coverage at least twice per day, eliminating
"surprise" tropical cyclones.
