On this day in ..

* 1834 - Unusual snows across the Northeast. Six inches of snow fell at
Erie, Pennsylvania, and 12 inches at Rutland, Vermont between the 12th and
15th.
* 1886 - 43 people killed by tornado in Xenia, OH. Total deaths in two
Ohio counties: 57.
* 1916 - 7.80 inches of rain in 15 minutes at Plumb Point Jamaica to set
a world record.
* 1971 - Chain-reaction pileup on I-10 near Casa Grande AZ caused by
sudden dust storms, which reduced visibilities to near zero. 7 people
killed.
* 1972 - 18 people killed in Flash Flooding in the Texas Hill Country as
16 inches of rain fell near New Braunfels TX. A 30-foot wall of water rushed
down Blueders Creek into the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers. Damage $20 million.
* 1982 - 46 inches of snow fell at Coal Creek Canyon, near Boulder,
Colorado.
* 1982 - 12 inches of rain in Bonham TX. Clinton OK had 7.32 inches.
* 1989 - Heavy rains across Maine. 4 day totals of 7 inches common. 4.50
inches of rain fell at Portland ME in 24 hours.
* 1997 - A very impressive sight as a tornado developed over the
southwest side of Miami FL and chewed its way straight across parts of
downtown. 4 people received minor injuries.
