...Better Than We Thought...

GOOD MORNING! Well, we have good news in the weather department this
morning. The storms that we expected to be ongoing this morning across the
area arrived much sooner than expected, during the evening hours. Light
rain persisted through much of the overnight, but it is lifting out of the
area this morning. Patchy fog and low clouds is prevalent across the area.

Low pressure is passing through North Central Alabama. Skies should remain
mostly cloudy, although a few breaks in the clouds will occur today.
The good news is that last night's rain, limited as it might have been, was
the main event. storms are not expected to be a problem today, as we earlier
thought. With the low pressure center passing us by already, there just
won't be sufficient instability to support many storms. So, while a couple
of isolated storms may form, they should not become severe.

TONIGHT AND MONDAY: Clouds should hang tough through the overnight hours
tonight and into early Monday morning. There could be a little more patchy
fog also. Skies should become partly cloudy and conditions should remain
dry. Temperatures will warm to near 80 degrees.

TUESDAY: It looks like showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous
again on Tuesday as another disturbance passes by to the north of Alabama.

WEDNESDAY AND BEYOND: A stronger low pressure system will pass to the north
of Alabama, producing more showers and storms ahead of a cold front. This
front looks like it will have enough oomph to make it through the area by
Thursday, finally clearing out the rain and storms. Friday looks nice, but
rain might return again on Saturday along with a chance of thunderstorms.

ON THIS DATE IN 2003: A significant flooding event affected parts of
Jefferson and St. Clair Counties as persistent thunderstorms formed and
trained over the same areas. Damage totaled over $1 billion. Read more
about the disaster in today's Weather Talk blog.
