EXCELLENT RACE WEATHER: Too bad the NASCAR race at Talladega was
wiped out by the rain Sunday, but today it was a 180-degree turn-around. A
sparkling blue sky, not much wind, comfortable temperatures.

I am sorry the race had to be delayed, but I sure did enjoy the
weather Sunday. I love a cool, rainy day especially when there is some wind.
That is the main thing I do not like about Alabama's climate-there is not
enough wind, especially through the summer months.

Nice comfortable temperatures for tonight with lows in the 50s.
Afternoons will be warming up a bit, but nothing unusually warm for much of
this week. Highs should be mostly in the lower 80s.

RAINFALL DEPARTMENT: Only a slight chance Tuesday and Wednesday.
Showers and some thunderstorms will increase in number on Thursday,
especially Thursday night. Friday looks wet with showers and thunderstorms
and some parts of Central Alabama could receive more than an inch of rain.

APRIL RAINFALL: A great disparity in rainfall around the state.
Birmingham is probably in better shape than anyone ending the month with an
excess of 6.77 inches so far this year. In contrast, Mobile has a shortfall
of 12.41 inches of rain for the year, even though they got over 1 inch
yesterday. Huntsville is 6.24 inches below normal and Montgomery needs 5.66
inches to break even.

IN OTHER PLACES: It is extremely dry in parts of the SW and West,
including places as nearby to Alabama as Southern Mississippi and Louisiana.
New Orleans is 11.8 inches below normal for the year and Baton Rouge 12.50
inches short...in the Texas Panhandle, Amarillo has only received 1.50
inches of rain for all of 2006 which is less than 1/3 of normal. That part
of the country has had an enormous problem with brush and grassfires since
late winter and into spring. Literally hundreds of homes were burned.

RAMBLING: 19 in West Yellowstone, Montana was the coldest in the
lower 48 states this morning...coldest in Alaska was 13 below at Point
Lay...106 in Death Valley was Sunday's hottest...a very destructive F4
tornado severely damaged Minden, Louisiana on this date in 1933. 28 people
died. Witnesses described the tornado as sounding like a bunch of mad lions
on a speeding train.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly saw it more than 60
yards away. Her attention and curiosity went higher and higher as she slowly
approached. She probably stopped 10 to 15 times and lifted one of her front
paws like a bird dog to assess the situation. As she got closer and closer,
which took nearly 10 minutes, she stopped 5 or 6 more times, looked back
over her shoulder as if she wanted my advice. I urged her on. When she got
within 5 feet, a gust of wind picked it up and blew it over a clump of
grass. At that point, Molly bolted, headed home, and almost jerked me off my
feet. It was only an empty styrofoam cup. It is funny to see how the
smallest objects can spook that little girl when they move suddenly. I sure
did laugh at my little pal and she gave me a disgusted look. Another small
drama in the life of a little 9-pound puppy and I love her dearly. I should
not laugh but I can't help it. Life goes on.
