...Race Day Rerun...
GOOD MORNING: Do you remember the old billboards, signs and car tags that
said "It's nice to have you in Birmingham"? Well, it is nice to have all of
our race fan friends here, but sorry you had to stay an extra day because of
the weather.
THE GOOD NEWS: Is that the weather will be much improved today. We will
start the day with low clouds or fog in most locations. Sunshine will
return by late morning, allowing temperatures to rise quickly into the upper
70s, with some locations making it even into the lower 80s. Yesterday's
windy conditions will be gone. It will be a perfect day at Talladega.
THE WEEK AHEAD: Our problems yesterday were courtesy of a big upper low
over the central art of the country and a trough extending down into
Mississippi. We were in the middle of the battleground between that trough
and a wedge of high pressure to our east. As the trough weakens, the flow
across North America will become zonal. Disturbances sliding by in the flow
will give us a slight chance of showers Tuesday and Wednesday. Expect a
better chance on Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies. Then there are
indications that low pressure will swing across the area on Friday, giving
us good chance of rain and storms.
WEEKEND: A little light rain will linger on Saturday morning, but skies
should clear during the afternoon. Sunday looks to be a very nice day with
lots of sunshine and comfortable temperatures in the 70s after a seasonably
cool start. Winds will begin to pick up Sunday afternoon and evening in
response to a very strong storm system over the Plains states. It could
bring severe weather and heavy rains to a wide area by Monday.
ON THIS DATE IN 1933: A very destructive F4 tornado struck Minden LA. 28
people died in the tornado that reportedly sounded like "mad lions on a
speeding train."
