...Race Forecast...

GOOD MORNING! Too bad we don't have last Sunday's weather for today's
running of the Aaron's 499 at Talladega. For the drivers, the good news, I
guess, is that it will be cool. Not such good news for the fans, although
sunburns will be at a minimum.

We continue to receive conflicting signals from our main numerical weather
prediction models, but hopefully we are close enough in now to envision our
forecast solution. Showers should be diminishing this morning, but a few
will be remaining through the afternoon. It will be breezy, especially this
morning, although those winds will diminish some by mid-afternoon. Skies
will remain cloudy and temperatures will be on the cool side thanks to the
easterly flow. In fact, most everyone should stay in the 60s all day, and a
few locations may remain in the 50s near the Georgia border.

TONIGHT AND MONDAY: The weather system that brought us the rain should
fall apart tonight, allowing some clearing tonight. Slightly drier air will
allow readings to drop to near 50 or slightly below tonight. Very
comfortable. Tomorrow will see at least some sunshine and readings will make
it back into the lower 70s.

TUESDAY FRONT: A cold front will edge into the area late on Tuesday,
increasing shower and storm chances. Look for highs in the 70s.

WEDNESDAY: A little mini-ridge of high pressure keeps us partly cloudy on
Wednesday.

THURSDAY: High pressure over the northern Gulf keeps our main moisture
source squeezed, but a few showers may work their way in on Thursday as
another system slides by in a west to east flow. A brief clearing spell
follows, but another system follows in its heels for Friday and another for
Friday.

ON THIS DATE IN 1888: 246 people reportedly died in the world's deadliest
hailstorm, which struck parts of India. Hailstones were the size of
baseball reportedly.

ON THIS DATE IN 1985: A giant slab of ice, 6 feet long and 8 inches thich
weighing over 1500 pounds, fell into a backyard in Hartford, CT. The ice
probably came off of a high flying jet plane.
