...Storms Develop This Afternoon...

Some big changes coming in our weather during the next 48 hours. We expect
showers and storms to fire up this afternoon over the northwest part of the
state, spreading southeastward during the night tonight as a surface front
moves through Alabama. The Storm Prediction Center maintains a slight risk
of severe storms for this afternoon and tonight, with the primary threat
coming from hail and strong winds. Seems like the best chance of severe
storms will come from around 4:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight.

A COOL CHANGE: Much cooler air settles into the state tomorrow; looks like
we stay in the 60s all day; quite a change from the summer-like days of
late. Rain will continue tomorrow morning, but should end from west to east
during the midday and early afternoon hours.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: We expect delightful springtime weather on these two days
with ample sunshine and highs in the low to mid 70s.

WEEKEND PEEK: We will be dodging some raindrops over the weekend. Since this
is race weekend at Talladega, there is high interest in the rain threat
among NASCAR fans. For the moment it looks like the best chance of rain will
come from around mid-afternoon Saturday through Sunday morning. But, the
timing could change as we approach the weekend. Stay tuned.

RAIN UPDATE: Birmingham's rain total so far this month is 6.88", which has
pushed our rain surplus for the year to 6.74". The Alabama Gulf Coast
remains very dry however; in Mobile the total for the year is only 8.32",
almost 14 inches below normal.

ROAMING: National hot spot yesterday was Laredo, TX with 99 degrees. A
tornado touched down near El Reno, OK late yesterday.
