...Goodbye Storms...

GOOD MORNING: Shhhhh! Listen. Do you hear that? If you listen really
hard, you will. It is the sound of the grass growing in my yard. You have
me to thank for this week's abundant rainfall. You see, my grass was
looking dry and brown last weekend. Then I decided I would water the lawn
on Sunday.

That was all that it took. The result: 5.83 inches of rain at the
Birmingham Airport. Our surplus for the year had nearly been erased before
the week's rainfall.

DROUGHT BUSTER: Looks like some other Alabama cities could use my drought
busting powers. How about Montgomery, where the rainfall deficit for the
year is 6.08 inches. Mobile is a whopping 13.60 inches behind for the year.
That is significant.

SEVERE WEATHER OVER: Our recent spate of bad weather is over for the time
being. A cold front is moving across the area this morning. The front will
be in the land of Mickey Mouse by tomorrow morning. We will enjoy an
especially fine afternoon and evening today and a pretty good day tomorrow.
Highs today will be in the middle and upper 70s. Looks for overnight lows
in the comfortable upper 50s. Sunday will be mostly sunny and warm.
Readings will top out in the middle 80s tomorrow.

WEEK AHEAD: It appears that high pressure will remain in control of
Alabama's weather through Monday. By Tuesday, clouds will be on the
increase and so will showers and storms by late in the day. At that time, a
wav stationary front will be parked to our north, and waves of low pressure
will bring rounds of showers and storms to Alabama. The front should sink
southward, moving south of Birmingham Wednesday. Fair weather should
prevail until the following Saturday across the area. By Saturday and
Sunday, low pressure will be passing to the north of the state, pushing
another cold front our way and leading to more showers and storm.s

ONE YEAR AGO: President Bush had his plans to speak at Cades Cove in the
Great Smoky Mountains altered by Mother Nature as planner feared that
thunderstorms and hail would batter the audience. The President instead
spoke from a hangar at the Knoxville Airport.
