BACK TO THUNDER AND LIGHTNING: We had an overdose of that last
week, but we must face some more thunderstorms tomorrow and Wednesday.
Nothing at all going on tonight. It should be mostly fair with pleasant
temperatures. We think the best chance of showers and thunderstorms will
start later in the day tomorrow and extending through the night and for a
time Wednesday morning. The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked about the
NW half of Alabama for a Slight Risk of severe weather for Tuesday. As
always, we will watch that closely.

A cold front will follow the storminess and give us some very
pleasant weather and even some chilly nights Thursday and Friday. Indeed, we
are calling for low temperatures in the mid 40s across Central Alabama early
Thursday morning. Places like Hamilton, Valley Head and DeSoto State Park
should not have some low 40s. One of the cooler temperatures in the state
this morning was 48 in Hamilton and Rock Mills. Tonight's lows should be
mostly in the 60s.

LAST WEEK'S HAIL: If that wasn't an overdose of large hail, I don't
know what is. Can't remember that much hail in Alabama during such a short
timeframe. While the biggest hailstorms were in places like Blount and St.
Clair Counties, the largest size hailstone reported was apparently 4.25
inches in diameter (softball size) in the wee morning hours of Friday in
Walker County a few miles WNW of Jasper. No confirmed damage from that. It
may have fallen in an open area.

ROAMING ALL OVER: Had a delightful drive Saturday down into Hale
County where I grew up and, ah, yes, had to include Havana Junction. When I
was growing up there, there were two country stores and a cotton gin. All
three are closed now, but still a delight to go through there. Decoration
Day at our old family church in East Hale County known as
Springhill...again, I am convinced that Bibb County has the most trees per
square mile of any county in Alabama...at midday, Laramie, Wyoming was
reporting 25 degrees with heavy snow. Rock Springs had 29 degrees and 37 mph
winds...3.58 inches of rain at Bridgeport, Connecticut over the weekend...99
degrees at Wink, Texas was the Sunday hotspot in the USA...it was 20 this
morning in Cut Bank, Montana and 13 below in good old Deadhorse,
Alaska...yes, this is the prime severe weather season in the south. A big
outbreak on this date in 1908 when 18 tornadoes touched down from Louisiana
to Georgia. Hardest hit was Hattiesburg where 143 persons were killed.
Mississippi in all had 155 deaths. Most of Purvis, Mississippi was wiped
out...a tornado at Amite, Louisiana was reported as 2.5 miles wide...37
persons were killed in Alabama.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: One nice thing about Little Miss
Molly-she doesn't carry a grudge. She pouted quite a bit during our last
severe weather because I had no time to play with her, but yesterday morning
the minute I started playing kickball with her, she was happy as a lark and
all was forgiven. It sure would be nice if we humans were that way...when we
got back from Hale County, she was extra glad to see us because we had been
gone 10 hours and I didn't think she would ever stop jumping up and down
with joy. We spent a lot of time Saturday evening catching up on loving her.
Each walk over the weekend, I let Molly be the boss and she took a record
amount of time inspecting everything in sight. Life goes on.
