...Snow In Our Forecast?...

GOOD MORNING: We have been monitoring computer models for the past few days trying to confirm what we were seeing.. The weather models kept trying to depict a huge Arctic airmass heading southward with a strong low pressure system in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. We now believe that the consistency of the model runs indicates that we will experience a major snowstorm here in Central Alabama in the next ten days. It is too early to be specific...because it is April Fools Day….

APRIL 1: Sorry...couldn't resist that one. Seems like I don’t usually get to forecast on April Fools Day. In reality, snow is the furthest thing from reality in the days ahead. In fact, temperatures will be above 80 Sunday and Monday and in the comfortable 70s for much of the coming seven days.

WEEKEND FORECAST: Most areas will get off to a cloudy start this morning in the wake of a weak front that produced some fairly strong showers and storms late yesterday afternoon and evening, especially over the Tennessee Valley.. Sun should return, at least partially, today, with temperatures warming well into the 70s. Expect a repeat performance tomorrow, just a little more sunshine and a little warmer.

THE WEEK AHEAD: But clouds will be on the increase again by late on Sunday with a few showers and storms brushing North Alabama late Sunday night into Monday morning.

Some drier air will filter into Alabama by Tuesday, leading to dry conditions through midweek. A weakening area of showers and storms will limp our way on Friday.

Temperatures will remain above normal for the foreseeable future, with 80s returning by the weekend.

ON THIS DATE IN 1997: The Baltimore Orioles postponed their opening day-game against the Kansas City Royals because of cold weather and high winds. This was the second time in a row that the Orioles home opener was postponed. Orioles opening day was canceled only one other time, in 1972 at Memorial Stadium.
