...Quiet; Cool Weekend...

GOOD MORNING: Greetings from Orlando. Got to squeeze out a short spring break weekend after all. That meant a glorious spring training baseball game yesterday at Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee between the Astros and the Detroit Tigers. We had great seats in the front row just beyond the third base dugout. Nothing beats a spring training game for the proximity to the players, the weather and the relaxed feel of the crowd. Loved it.

TODAY: Today will be a sunny and cool day with a breezy north wind. Highs will top out in the middle 50s, some 15 degrees or so below normal.

FREEZE WARNING TONIGHT: For the third straight morning, temperatures will drop below freezing across a good bit of the area. For most spots, tomorrow morning will be the coldest of the current cold snap, with lows averaging 30 degrees. Growers and people who have plants that will be sensitive to the cold should protect the tender vegetation.

OUR FORECAST: Sunny and cool conditions will prevail again tomorrow. Things will begin to warm up on Monday, with highs moving back into the 60s. A slight chance of showers will return Monday night as our next storm system approaches. Tuesday will feature a chance of a shower or storm. Temperatures will warm back into the 70s for midweek.

BAHAMAS WEATHER CONFERENCE: The tenth annual Bahamas Weather Conference was held March 8-12 on Grand Bahama Island. Top experts on hurricane spoke during the event. You can actually view excerpts by visiting the site http://www.bahamaswxconference.com. I will summarize some of the material presented in this weekend’s versions of Weather Talk.

ON THIS DATE IN 1901: As many as 20 or more people were killed by an F3 tornado that moved across parts of Birmingham The twister cut a 15 mile path from the south side of the city across to Avondale and then to Irondale. I will post a link an item in the online digital collection of the Birmingham Public Library in a separate Weather Talk story.
