...Clouds, but not much rain...

Clouds will move into Alabama today, but the chance of measurable rain looks
relatively small due to very dry air near the surface. This will be one of
those days where you see lots of rain on radar, but most of it will
evaporate before reaching the ground. Where sprinkles do reach the ground,
it probably won't be enough to get the pavement wet.

The sky will clear late tonight, and a fresh supply of cool, dry air moves
in here tomorrow. Temperatures will remain a good 15 degrees below normal
through the weekend, and each morning (through Sunday) we will have the
chance of a light freeze and some frost. For now it looks like Saturday
morning might be the coldest, with the mercury dipping into the 26 to 32
degree range for most communities.

NEXT WEEK: Still looks like our next chance of showers or storms will come
on Tuesday of next week. The latest model output continues to suggest that
this won't be a very strong system, and severe weather is not likely.
Looks like temperatures will finally have a chance of getting to normal
levels for late March toward the middle of next week. The normal high for
Birmingham today (March 23) is 68, and the normal low 44.

PRIME TIME: Don't forget our Storm Alert 2006 TV special this Sunday from
6:00 until 7:00 on ABC 33/40. The feature story is about a man who survived
a tornado on March 21, 1932, during Alabama's greatest severe weather
outbreak. While he was only four at the time, Jack Latham recalls the event
like it was yesterday. He lost both parents and five brothers and sisters in
the storm. There are other great Alabama weather stories in the show; don't
miss it!
