...An Early Spring Chill in the Air...

We are forecasting a high this afternoon of 54 degrees, which is 14 degrees
below normal for March 22. That is the type of early spring chill we will
deal with for the rest of the week across Alabama and the Deep South. Highs
in the mid 50s, lows in the low 30s will be the general idea for the next
three to four days. Most mornings we will have the potential for a light
freeze and frost.

The good news is that we will enjoy a good deal of sunshine today.

Clouds return tomorrow in advance of a rather strong upper air system, but
with hardly any low level moisture to work with, rain over the northern half
of the state will be hard to find. We will mention the chance of a few
sprinkles tomorrow for areas south of Birmingham, but the best chance of
measurable rain will come south of Montgomery. Sunshine returns in full
force on Friday as that system moves on to the east.

THE WEEKEND: Lots of sunshine is expected on Saturday and Sunday, with a
slow warming trend. Highs will remain in the 50s on Saturday, but there is a
good chance we will reach the 60s Sunday afternoon.

NEXT RAIN: At this point it looks like the next chance of rain will come
around Tuesday of next week, with a band of showers and thunderstorms along
a cold front. For now the models don't suggest any serious severe weather
threat with that feature, but it is a long way away.

RAIN SURPLUS: Birmingham's rain total for 2006 so far is up to 19.10", over
five inches above normal (+5.28").

FLORIDA HEAT: Tallahassee, Florida soared to 91 degrees yesterday, and was
the hottest spot in the nation along with Vero Beach and West Palm Beach,
both also in Florida.
