DEFINITELY NOT SPRING-LIKE: The chill is with us for a while. Your
thermometer may not even see the 60-degree mark until about next Sunday. Not
only will the days be chilly, but we are going to be courting some freezing
temperatures for several nights in a row Thursday through Saturday.

Only thing that is keeping us from dropping to near freezing tonight
will be an influx of clouds and brisk NW winds. While we have seen quite a
bit of sunshine today, a wide band of clouds was spreading south from
Arkansas and Tennessee and will keep us mostly cloudy overnight. There is
some scattered light rain in these clouds, which is also a surge of colder
air. We may see some sprinkles across North Alabama tonight-mostly north of
the Birmingham area. Part of this same system may produce up to 2 inches of
snow in the Great Smoky Mountains tonight.

We expect clearing weather tomorrow and the rest of the week will be
more sunshine than clouds. There is some hint that a few showers could show
up at some point Thursday night, however, we are omitting them from the
forecast until things clarify.

OLD FASHIONED DRENCHING: I doubt if there is a single square inch
of dry soil in Alabama today unless it is under your house. The most rain I
have seen in the last 24 hours was 5.09 inches at Yates Dam down in Central
Alabama. Numerous locations had over 2 inches and most folks got over 1
inch. We have posted a complete list on our BLOG. We also have posted a
story about the great tragedy in Alabama 74 years ago on March 21, 1932 when
about 300 people were killed and 3,000 injured in our greatest tornado
outbreak.

GREAT BIG SNOWSTORM: It happened in the last couple of days and the
snow pack is further south in the central part of the country that it was in
much of the winter. It extends down to North Missouri. There was 28 inches
on the ground this morning at Greeley, Nebraska, 13 inches in Lincoln, 20
inches at Hastings, Nebraska and 18 inches at Rapid City, South Dakota, just
to name a few...a few other USA notes: the coldest in the lower 48 this
morning was 2 below zero at Trinidad, Colorado...it was 24 at Nuiqsut,
Alaska...summer-like heat in the Rio Grande Valley Monday with 99 degrees at
Harlingen, Texas.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: That little semi-spanking that I gave
Molly yesterday morning with a rolled newspaper, did not help one bit. She
is so determined to protect her territory, that she really lets the world
know when another dog passes by or even when people pass by on the walking
track. We have tried to reason with the little girl, but she just looks at
us with those big eyes...sure was a fresh morning walk with everything so
wet ...two mockingbirds were sitting side by side in the top of a sassafras
tree and another one was in the top of a teenage hickory tree. They were all
very lively and talkative. believe it or not those were the only three birds
we saw...for most of her three years, Molly ignored the birds and
specialized in cats and
rabbits...lately she has developed a habit of chasing birds...she does not
know that she has a zero chance of success. Life goes on.
