A VERY CHILLY WEEKEND: Especially for late March. It just ought to not be this cold. We also will have to deal with a light freeze for the next three nights. We are forecasting an average low of 31 across Central Alabama tonight and we expect about 29 early Sunday morning, which would be our coldest morning. The colder valleys could drop as low as 25 or 26 especially Sunday morning.
Clouds have been moving down across NE Alabama at times today. That will continue tonight. We will have some clouds at times here in the central part of the state, but overall mostly fair. We look for more sun than clouds Saturday, Sunday and most of Monday. Moderating temperatures can be expected early in the week with highs in the 60s Monday and Tuesday.
OUR NEXT RAIN: Does not look like a big event, but all of the votes point to Tuesday for a chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm.
LAST NIGHTS CHILL: The coldest temperature we could find in Alabama this morning was 23 at Belle Mina. Here are a few other lows:
24 in Hamilton
28 in Russellville and Cottondale
30 in Jasper, Huntsville, Albertville, Heflin
31 in Decatur, Clanton and Birmingham
33 in Livingston, Inverness, Tuscaloosa
35 in Montgomery
WEEKEND AT THE BEACH: For your last minute dash to Gulf Shores for the end of Spring Break, the mornings will be chilly and the afternoons cool Saturday and Sunday. Highs between 62 and 65 with early morning lows in the upper 30s. Not a good time to play in the water.
FRIDAY FINAL THOUGHTS: Gatlinburg got little or no snow overnight, but 5 inches accumulated atop Mt. LeConte and 3 inches on Newfound Gap in the Great Smokies...todays snow analysis by the NWS shows an estimated 31% of the country with a snow cover. That is a lot for this late in the season and that pertains only to the lower 48 states...one of the deepest snow reports was 188 inches at Swift Creek, Wyoming...87 at Marathon, Florida was
yesterdays warmest...2 below at Valentine, Nebraska was the coldest in the lower 48 this morning.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: An overload of excitement for Little Miss Molly in the last 24 hours...two visits by a salesman yesterday and four service technicians were here for several hours installing our new air conditioning system. Miss Molly thought she was supposed to be the star attraction to everybody...all of the air conditioning people loved Miss Molly, especially Preston Kolb, the supervisor. He and Molly bonded right away...then a pizza delivery young lady who has three dogs of her own, loved Molly...early this morning, the grass cutters were here for the first time this season. Anytime you crank up a lawn mower, vacuum cleaner or garbage disposal, Little Miss Molly heads for one of her safe places she immediately came in my office, tried to jump up in my chair on the way to the top of my desk. She knows that I will cuddle her and try to calm her down. Life goes on with all its ups and downs. Nothing like life.
