...One More Mild Day for Alabama...

For many Alabama communities, yesterday was the warmest day so far in 2006.
Birmingham's official high was 75; the warmest spots in the state (among the
official reporting stations) were Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Evergreen with
a balmy 78 degrees.

We expect the mercury to reach the low 70s today with a partly sunny sky. A
cold front passes through tonight, but only isolated showers are expected.

Following that front, cooler air moves into the state tomorrow and Saturday
with daytime highs closer to 60. Temperatures early Saturday morning will be
close to freezing.

Another front will move through Sunday night or early Monday, and like the
one tonight any showers should be widely spaced and rainfall amounts very
light. Another shot of cooler air moves in here early next week.

MARCH HEAT: The first day of March felt more like the first day of July in
parts of Texas yesterday. Both Wichita Falls and Mineral Wells soared to 98
degrees. Dallas/Fort Worth reported a high of 93, easily beating the old
record of 89. The high in Oklahoma City was 92, another record high for the
date.

MARCH SNOW: A winter storm warning is in effect for New York City today,
where three to five inches of snow is expected.

FEBRUARY MADE US SHIVER: The average high in Birmingham for the month of
February was 54.5 degrees, four degrees colder than normal. The rain total
was a whopping 8.71". Birmingham now has a rain surplus of almost five
inches (4.83) for the year.

26 YEARS AGO: Today's record low is 15 from 1980; oddly enough that year
could go on to feature one of our hottest summers on record.
