...Are you ready for a Dusting?...

GOOD MORNING: Alright, folks. I have been waiting for a good snow for
quite snow time now. My last good snow was the Storm of the Century in
1993, when 12 inches of snow fell in Birmingham. The year before, a good
Saturday snow dropped about four inches of the white stuff on Birmingham.
It has only been dustings since then, to my recollection. Get ready for
another dusting.

YOUR FORECAST: The low pressure system that brought the rain and snow to
Alabama overnight is really beginning to get wound up. The low is over
Southeast Alabama and Southwest Georgia this morning. Cold air is rushing
into North and Central Alabama on the backside of the low. Fortunately, the
main moisture is moving out to the northeast, but not before the rain had a
chance to change to snow over parts of the area overnight. Accumulations
have been light and travel problems have been minimal.

Skies will remain cloudy and it will become quite windy with temperatures
holding steady in the 30s. In addition, upper level disturbances will
trigger occasional snow showers through Sunday morning. Some areas may pick
up a dusting of snow between now and then. Temperatures overnight tonight
will drop into the middle 20s, with an average low of 26 across the area.

Skies will continue mostly cloudy on Sunday, with temperatures struggling
again to get out of the 30s. In fact, we will likely not see 40 again until
Monday. Temperatures on Sunday night will be 3-5 degrees colder than
tonight with lows Monday morning averaging 23F. Some of the normally colder
valleys will make it into the teens tomorrow morning. The remainder of the
week will feature moderating temperatures with highs returning to near
normal levels. Developing low pressure by late Wednesday may bring showers.

ON THIS DATE IN 2003: Residents of Central Illinois were surprised when
their NOAA Weatheradios began to sound for a severe thunderstorm warning
during a steady snowstorm.  The warning was not a drill, but was put issued
because of thundersnows with strong winds.
