...A Bright and Sunny Winter Day...

Today promises to be a beautiful mid-winter day, with maximum available
sunshine and temperatures very close to normal levels for the last day in
January. Dry weather will continue tomorrow, and a warming trend begins
tomorrow afternoon as the mercury rises into the 60s.
By tomorrow night, moist air begins to return to the state, and a few
showers could show up during the pre-dawn hours on Thursday. We will
forecast a chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm during the day
Thursday as an upper air impulse moves over the state.

A strong disturbance will move through late Friday and Friday night with
another round of showers and storms. Computer model data is not in good
agreement about the strength of this system, but there is some risk of
strong to severe storms here sometime between 4:00 p.m. Friday and midnight
Friday night if the stronger solutions happen to verify. Rainfall amounts
Thursday and Friday should be between one and two inches for most Alabama
communities.

THE WEEKEND: Following the Friday night thunderstorm action, a very deep and
cold upper trough is forecast to develop over the Deep South, which should
bring sharply colder temperatures on Saturday along with an icy wind.
Temperatures will struggle to reach the low to mid 40s if clouds linger much
of the day as we expect. A few snow flurries might even be found up in the
Tennessee Valley during the morning hours on Saturday.

STORM ALERT 2006: Our annual severe weather awareness tour kicks off
Thursday night in Hamilton at the Bevill State Auditorium. The show begins
at 7:00, and we strongly recommend you get there early to get a seat!
