...Two Shortwaves In One...

GOOD MORNING: Remember the old certs commercials? Two, two two mints in
one? Well we have a similar weather deal this weekend.

TALE OF TWO SHORTWAVES: Short waves are relatively small troughs of low
pressure in the atmosphere. We also refer to them as upper level
disturbances, or vort maxes, which is short for vorticity maxima. They are
the movers and shakers in our weather, producing clouds and precipitation.
This morning, there one in a tandem across the U.S. is located over the
Rocky Mountains. The second is just moving into the Pacific Northwest.

Clouds will be thickening through the day today as the first system swings
into the Plains and rounds a bend heading on to the northeast. I think we
stay dry through the afternoon and evening hours, with some rain reaching
northwest and western sections of the state around midnight or just before.
Rain should be widespread during the hours after midnight across much of the
area, lasting into mid morning on Sunday. I can't wait! Great weather to
wake up to.

Many of you will experience one to one and a half inches of rain.
Thunderstorms will be scarce to non-existent, with very limited instability,
although we can't rule out a few rumbles of thunder Sunday morning. Rain
exits by lunchtime with some sun possible during the afternoon.

The second disturbance is going to swing by Sunday night into Monday.
There is an outside chance there could be a shower during this period, but
the chance looks small. Skies will be partially sunny. Look for freezing
temps Monday night.

REST OF THE WEEK: Partly cloudy conditions will prevail on Monday with a
cool northwest breeze. High pressure will prevail through midweek.
Showers will return on Thursday.
