...Another Sunny Cool Day...

Today will be another day of bright sunshine and crisp temperatures across
Alabama as cool and dry air stays in place. Most places will see highs today
in the 54 to 58 degree range, about normal for late January in Alabama.
Another light freeze is likely late tonight.

Tomorrow will be another dry day, and a warming trend begins as we reach the
low 60s.

WEEKEND STORM: Clouds will begin to return on Saturday as moist air flows
northward. A few showers could show up by Saturday night, but the next main
rain event should come during the day Sunday.

We will highlight rain and thunderstorms on Sunday, and another good soaking
looks likely. Rainfall amounts of one to two inches are a good bet, and we
will also be watching for the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms.
As always in January, the amount of really unstable air will be in question.

We will be able to fine tune the severe weather risk on tomorrow's package.

Cooler and drier air will follow Sunday's storm for early next week.

BIG TIME COLD: Yesterday's high in Fairbanks, Alaska was 35 degrees below
zero. They should be in the -40 to -45 degree range early this morning.
Chandalar Lake and Fort Yukon (both in Alaska) dropped to -53 yesterday
morning. This cold air will be on the move in the next week or so, we will
keep a
close eye on it.

STORM ALERT 2006: Our first stop on the ninth annual Storm Alert tour will
be one week from tonight at Bevill State in Hamilton. We will introduce some
really cool new weather technology, and tell some amazing Alabama weather
stories. And, of course, we will get your family ready for the spring
tornado season!
