...Sunny With a Cool Breeze...

Cooler air will move into Alabama today on brisk northwest winds gusting as
high as 25 mph. Despite almost maximum available sunshine, we are forecast
highs only in the mid 50s today. And, tonight with a clear sky and light
wind, the mercury will drop quickly, and most spots will be in the 24 to 29
degree range by daybreak tomorrow.

A warming trend will begin Friday, which will last into the weekend, But,
along with the warming trend, will come increasing moisture in advance of a
storm system to the west.

While we expect much of the day Saturday to remain dry, clouds will increase
as the weekend begins. Showers should arrive Saturday night, with rain
becoming more widespread on Sunday.

Sunday looks like an active weather day for Alabama, with a dynamic storm
system and abundant moisture from the Gulf. Rainfall amounts of one to two
inches are likely, and strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible as
well. The severe weather threat will all depend on how much unstable air
will be available.

Cooler and drier air will follow Sunday's rain and storms early next week.

HAWAII SNOW: Officials closed the summit of Hawaii's Mauna Kea volcano to
the public after a snowstorm shut down access for the first time this winter
season. Clouds blanketed Hawaii's tallest peak this past weekend. A blanket
of snow forced everyone to evacuate, including park rangers. Yes, it does
snow in Hawaii!

EUROPE COLD: A glacial chill has claimed more lives in across Eastern Europe
in recent days, forcing schools to shut and disrupting public transport as
cold cracked rail lines. In Poland, a total of 39 people have died since a
cold spell hit the country last Thursday.
