...Wet Weekend...
GREETINGS FROM...BIRMINGHAM: Seems like an unusual byline for me, I know, and I am glad to be home. It looks alike a good weekend to stay in, with rain chances through Monday.
GREAT SLEEPING WEATHER: Last nights cool and showery conditions made for a nice sleeping night. But now that youre up, you might be looking for the showers to vamoose. Showers should continue this morning, and linger into the afternoon as a cold front settles down into Alabama and stalls across Central sections. The rain may drift south also later today and tonight, but it is destined to come back north again on Sunday as a warm front.
RAINY SUNDAY/MONDAY: Showers and a few storms will be on the increase on Sunday as the warm front pushes northward. Rainy conditions will prevail Sunday night through much of Monday. The rain will finally exit as a cold front moves through the area.
A SHORT BREAK: We will enjoy a brief respite from the rain on Tuesday and Wednesday as high pressure dominates Alabamas weather.
NEXT STORM SYSTEM: Our next weather maker will be taking shape to our west on Thursday. By Friday, the low will be just northwest of Birmingham. Showers and thunderstorms will spread across the state on Friday. We will be monitoring for the possibility of heavy rain and perhaps some strong storms with this system. Showers will hang on into Saturday.
SEATTLE RECORD WATCH: Seattles rainy streak was ended last Saturday at 27 days. The
standing record is thirty three days set in 1953.
ON THIS DATE IN 1985: Alabama was in the deep freeze as an Arctic blast held the state in its grips. Overnight lows across the state included: 3F at Mobile, 0F at Montgomery, -6F at Birmingham, -8F at Pinson, -10F at Jasper and -11F at both Huntsville and Muscle Shoals. Plumbers were busy answering calls from worried residents who had no water, a sure sign of frozen pipes.
