...Rain returns over the Weekend...

Get ready for more weather changes for Alabama. Today should be dry and
pleasant with a partly sunny sky. Most spots should rise into the low 60s
this afternoon.

Clouds return tomorrow, and we will deal with periods of rain and possibly a
thunderstorm tomorrow night into Sunday morning. At this point the upper
support and instability don't seem favorable for any severe thunderstorms.

Then, a stronger upper wave moves through Monday. In advance of this,
another round of rain and storms is likely late Sunday night into Monday.
Once again, with only marginal instability values at this time severe
weather doesn't seem especially likely. But, some pretty decent rain amounts
are a good bet. Many Alabama communities will receive between one and two
inches from tomorrow night through Monday night.

Following Monday's rain, look for a shot of much colder air Tuesday of next
week. The Tennessee Valley of extreme North Alabama will have a hard time
getting out of the 30s; we will forecast highs around here only in the low
40s. A few snow flurries are possible late Monday and Tuesday morning over
northeast Alabama.

ALAKSA COLD: Chandalar Lake, AK dropped to 59 below zero yesterday morning.
In Fairbanks, the high was 39 below zero, which followed a morning low of 49
below. The average temperature in Fairbanks so far this month is 19.2 below
zero, and temperatures for the rest of the month will range from 30 to 50
below zero. Based on that forecast, January will be at least the fifth
coldest month on record for that Alaskan city.

TEXAS WARMTH: The warmest places in the U.S. yesterday were both in Texas:
McAllen and Laredo both reached 77 degrees.
