...A Big Warmup Today...
More fast paced weather changes are ahead for Alabama, so hang on for a
roller coaster ride. Today should be a beautiful day, with lots of sunshine
and temperatures soaring into the low 70s following a chilly morning. Then,
clouds move in tonight, and a band of showers and thunderstorms should pass
through tomorrow morning.
At this point it looks like the best chance of showers and storms will come
from about 6:00 a.m. until 12 Noon tomorrow. While a strong storm is not out
of the question a major severe weather threat is not likely due to limited
instability values and marginal wind fields. Rainfall amounts of 1/2 inch
are likely.
As the rain moves out tomorrow afternoon, colder air moves in. In fact,
temperatures could fall tomorrow afternoon over northwest Alabama in the
wake of a frontal passage. By Saturday morning, temperatures will be well
down in the 30s over the northern half of the state.
THE WEEKEND: We are now forecasting a clearing sky during the day Saturday.
If the sun does pop out, we will reach the low to mid 50s. Then, a light
freeze is likely early Sunday morning with lows between 25 and 30 degrees.
Another warming trend begins Sunday afternoon in advance of a storm system
that will bring rain and storms back to Alabama Monday night into Tuesday
morning of next week. And, once again a quick shot of colder air is likely
for the middle part of next week.
ROAMING: Yesterday was the 24th consecutive day of rain for Seattle; the
total was 1.14". There is no Amtrak train service between Portland, OR and
Canada due to a series of mudslides between Tacoma and Everett. Gunnison, CO
dropped to 20 below yesterday morning.
