...December Chill Continues...

GOOD MORNING! A trough of low pressure is pinwheeling across the area on
this December Sunday. This deepening trough will push rapidly to the east
and northeast later today. It will deliver a glancing, reinforcing shot of
cold air to Alabama and the Deep South. Clouds affiliated with the trough
will give us partly to mostly cloudy skies this morning, with clouds
thinning during the day. Temperatures will rise into the upper 40s today,
depending on cloud cover and sunshine. It will be a bit on the breezy side
today, with northwesterly winds averaging 7-14 mph. Another piece of upper
level energy will temporarily increase clouds across the northern part of
the state tonight. Readings tonight will bottom out around 30 degrees.

MONDAY/TUESDAY: The new week will start off with partly to mostly cloudy
skies, but those clouds will be thinning during the day. Temperatures will
warm a couple of degrees on Monday as compared to today. Tuesday should
feature a good deal of sunshine through high clouds, with near normal
temperatures. Winds will shift around to the southeast around high pressure
to the east of Alabama. This will send moisture levels soaring.

MIDWEEK RAINS: Low pressure to the west of Alabama will be spreading into
western sections of the state by Wednesday morning. An area of showers will
push across the state during the day. Showers will end by Thursday morning,
with clearing during the day on the back of a northerly wind.

TROPICS: These words were music to my ears today. There are no tropical
cyclones in the Atlantic at this time.

ON THIS DATE IN 1990: If you have drived up I-75 in eastern Tennessee, you
have seen the extensive fog warning systems. The reason happened on this
date in 1990 when dense fog formed along the Hiwassee River near Calhoun
Tennessee, dropping the visibility along a three-mile stretch of I-75 to
zero. Twelve people were killed in a massive 83-vehicle wreck.
