...Rain Returns Tomorrow...
A messy winter storm is unfolding today through parts of Texas, Oklahoma,
and Arkansas, where some snow and ice is likely for places like Dallas and
Oklahoma City. In advance of this system, clouds will gradually increase
across Alabama this afternoon and tonight.
We continue to believe the atmosphere will be sufficiently warm for only a
cold rain across most of Alabama tomorrow. A brief period of freezing rain
and a little bridge icing is possible early tomorrow over the extreme
northern part of the state, but even there most places will have only rain
throughout the day. Temperatures will hold in the 30s as the rain falls,
making for miserable conditions.
The rain will end tomorrow night, and a few snow flurries are possible
mainly over the northeast corner of the state as the cold air deepens. Then,
on Friday our sky will clear as the storm moves up into the northeast U.S.,
where heavy snow is possible for places like Washington and New York City.
WEEKEND PEEK: The weekend will begin with a very cold morning early
Saturday. At this point it looks like most places will drop into the 17 to
22 degree range early Saturday morning. Afternoons will be a little warmer,
but temperatures will remain below normal.
Another storm system should bring another threat of rain to Alabama by late
Monday and Tuesday of next week.
THE FROZEN TUNDRA: The mercury failed to climb above zero yesterday in
Spencer, Iowa, where the high was 1 below zero, following a morning low 17
below. Today's forecast high in Denver is three degrees. Yesterday's low of
7 in Cleveland was a new record for December 6.
