...Cold Weather Ahead...

GOOD MORNING: If you are looking for the definition of a miserable day in
Birmingham, this one would be it.
TODAY: Temperatures are starting off in the upper 30s in most locations. And
they will go nowhere fast all day. In fact, temperatures will remain steady
or fall throughout the day. Rain should taper off during the morning hours.
Some light snow will be experienced across extreme North Alabama. I
wouldn't be surprised to hear about a few snow flurries anywhere over the
northern half of the state today.
TONIGHT: Clearing could commence during the late afternoon, but by sunset,
it will be underway in earnest. Temperatures will plummet tonight beneath
clear skies with light winds. Most locations will fall to between 22-24
degrees. Some normally colder locations, such as protected valleys in
Northeast Alabama will make the teens.
TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY: Temperatures may well stay in the 30s all day in many
locations despite a good deal of sunshine. Nighttime lows will drop way
into the 20s again. Wednesday should feature partly cloudy skies.
LATE WEEK WINTRY ACTION? By Wednesday night, moisture will be moving toward
Alabama from the west as low pressure gets organized in the Gulf of Mexico.
Temperatures will still be cold enough for a wintry mix to form over North
Alabama during the morning hours. For now, we will call for a mix of sleet
and rain on Thursday. Temperatures will start off just above freezing and
rise only into the upper 30s. A light wintry mix may continue through
Thursday night and possibly even into Friday morning. I would not be
surprised for temperatures to be colder than we are forecasting, which could
result in more frozen than liquid precip. This is a developing weather
situation, and later forecasts will be able to better refine the threat of
wintry weather.
WEEKEND WEATHER: Saturday looks partly cloudy and cold, but low pressure
approaching from the west could make for a wet situation starting Sunday
afternoon. - Bill Murray
