...Dangerous Weather Today...

GOOD MORNING: We are watching a developing severe weather situation across
Alabama and the Deep South this morning. A powerful low pressure system is
located near the Iowa/Nebraska border this morning. A strong cold front is
surging eastward, and is near the Mississippi River. Ahead of the front,
strong winds in the lower atmosphere are pumping huge quantities of warm,
moist air northward. This unstable airmass is setting the stage for the
development of strong to severe storms across the area today. The
instability figures are not only impressive for November, they are looking
like they will be impressive for even spring outbreaks. It appears there
will be sufficient shear for discrete thunderstorm cells that will be
capable of producing significant tornadoes. That threat will begin later
this morning. A line of intense storms will cross the area starting around
lunchtime today, passing across the state during the afternoon and evening
hours, finally putting an end to the threat. .

BE WEATHER AWARE: Today is one of those days where you must remain in
close touch with weather bulletins and information. Review your personal
tornado safety plans and be ready to act on a moments notice if a warning is
issued or you see threatening weather approaching.

OTHERWISE: Winds will be strong today, out of the south at 15-25 mph,
occasionally gusting over 35 mph. It will be warm, with highs reaching the
70s. Behind the front, temperatures will drop into the forties tonight with
a biting west wind and a few lingering showers. Showers should exit eastern

sections of the state early tomorrow, with gradual clearing expected during
the day. Wednesday should be a sunny and seasonably cool day. Thursday
will feature partly cloudy skies and temperatures back in the lower 60s
ahead of a reinforcing cold front. Readings both mornings will approach
freezing.

That front will drop temperatures back into the 50s on Friday, with sunny
skies. Our next rain chance looks like it will come on Saturday as low
pressure forms to our west.
