...November Warmth...
GOOD MORNING! On the weather maps this morning, we see a strong upper level
trough over the Great Lakes states, extending down into the southeastern
United States. At the surface, low pressure is located over Michigan, with
a cold front trailing to the southwest, about to enter Northwest Alabama.
The front will move across the area this morning. There could be a few
showers and maybe even a little thunder with activity ahead of the front,
but rainfall amounts will be light. After a cloudy start, skies should
gradually clear as winds shift around to the west and northwest behind the
front. Dewpoints will drop and lows tonight will be back in the 50s.
The big trough will head into New England, leaving a broad zonal, or west to
east flow across the southern tier of states. This will set the stage for
a nice start to the week ahead. Monday should feature near total sunshine,
with afternoon highs pushing eight degrees across the area. Tuesday should
feature partly cloudy skies, with highs again right around 80.
MIDWEEK AND BEYOND: By Wednesday, a southwesterly flow should return ahead
of another cold front. But high pressure located over the northern Gulf
Coast will try to maintain a strong hold on our weather. It will grudgingly
give enough ground to allow a few showers to break out across the area
Wednesday night into Thursday. High pressure will begin to build in by
Friday, turning our winds around to the north and setting the stage for
another nice weekend across the Deep South.
ON THIS DATE IN 2003: Unusual heat, more like summertime than mid-autumn,
covered parts of the Southeast United States. 87°F at Charleston Airport,
85°F at New Orleans, 85°F in Savannah and 77°F in Asheville, North Carolina
were just a few of the dozens of records set for the date. When the
temperature reached 80 degrees at 10 oclock in the morning at Meridian,
Mississippi; it already established a new record for the date. The final
high temperature was 83F, which broke the old record by five degrees.
